Introducing the.. Hallway Track!

Hallway Track? What’s that you might ask? At every conference and event I’ve ever been I’ve always found myself enjoying the conversations I have with old friends (and new friends alike!) about a topic that just isn’t on the schedule – or just wouldn’t be suitable for a scheduled session. While these conversations are awesome, you still need to know who to talk to!

Today we’re kicking off something we call the Hallway Track, the Hallway track is the 3rd stream of “sessions” running all day, with much less structured content. It’s a time to bring people with similar interests and to connect like minded people, and to give the newcomers a chance to connect with others.

What “Hallway” talks are there? Well, that’s where you come in – we want to hear what topics and groups of people you want to connect with!
We’ve thought up a few topics, but we’d like to get as many up on the board before the weekend!

Here’s just a few ideas we came up with: (These aren’t yet scheduled – if they look interesting and you’d like to lead it, make sure to lock it in!)

  • eCommerce Do you run an store? Sell online using WooCommerce, or even Magento? Why not connect with others who are in a similar situation to you?
  • Developing with Gutenberg Are you plugin author? A curious user? Maybe you’re not sure where to start? Wouldn’t it be good to chat with others who have been there, done that?
  • Do you use a Page Builder? Is it Divi? Elementor? Would you like to meet others who also use it? Learn something new, find out about an extra extension that you’ve missed!
  • How do I run a successful WordPress meetup? We’ve all been along to a meetup before and thought I could do this! but have you ever pondered the questions of How do I do that? How do I help? Let’s get together and talk it out!
  • Do you use Joomla!, Drupal, or another CMS? Do you want to meet other people who use your favourite tool of choice? Why not find out if there’s others to learn from!

Sessions are to be organised by you, we won’t be providing you with a projector, room, microphone, or be recording it. We’ll just advertise it to everyone else at what time and what place to find each other.

We’ll be treating this as a separate track, running all day 10am to 4.30pm, maximum of 1 topic at any given time.
The Schedule has been updated with the extra track, if there isn’t something showing in the Hallway Track slot you can claim that!

We expect that the popular topics will be during the Breaks, and request that if a topic is during sessions, that the time align with the presentation schedule and not overlap or compete against a presented topic.

If this sounds like something you’d like, comment below with your preferred topic and timeslot!

  1. Hi Dion, I’m interested in running a Elementor Support session in the Hallway Track.

The idea is if you have a question, need help with an issue or just want to chat with other Elementor users to come along and get some support?

    Would this suite?

    Cheers Mick

  2. Hi Dion, I’m interested in having a small round table discussion for people interested in WooCommerce / eCommerce. I looked at the tracks for the Hallway Tracks and I am assuming that they are where the stars are. Is it possible to run an early morning one on Sunday – from 8:40am.

  3. Hi Dion,

I can run a Gravity Forms support session in the Hallway Track.

Happy to help people set up Gravity Forms, hook into the API or general “How to” questions.

Can do Sat arvo if that works.

    Cheerz,
    Wil.

  4. I’d like to run a session for Meetup Organisers and those interested in organising meetups to connect and chat. We’ve run a “AusOrganiser” meetup of WordPress meetup organisers in the past, this would be the same but more open to others who don’t currently organise and who might be interested in learning more.

Given the number of speakers, organisers and volunteers who are meetup organisers I think it might be better run Sunday Morning 9am (even though I suggested against that time-slot in a comment above to Toni). It’ll still conflict for some people though.

    • I’ve scheduled this for 9am Sunday before the event to work around those of us who are WordCamp organisers, volunteers, speakers, and sponsors.

It’s not going to work for everyone, but I’m hoping our later Sunday start will allow for everyone who wants to be there to be there.

        • A few people have said the same thing 🙂
We’ll see how people feel on the day, but we may reschedule it (I’d like it to be on the Sunday though, as there’s another meeting that needs to happen before it, which is currently Saturday evening)

  5. I’d love a Pods track! Damn Toni stealing the perfect slot for it straight after my CPT talk 😛
Let me know if you thing a) anyone would be interested and b) if you have a suggestion for a time. Please no early morning, I’ll be on Perth time still!

  6. WordCamp Brisbane 2020 – What does it look like? Who’s organising it? Does anyone else want to step in and make it a reality?

If there’s any interest, perhaps Sunday Afternoon could provide an opportunity for a discussion! (That’s not a confirmed time, It depends on the current years organiser schedules!)

  7. I’d love to do an Divi session, I am the owner of Aussie Divi Community and a few members coming. Also with so many changes I think it would be good to hear feedback.

  8. Hey, can I please book a “Lock Picking” session for Saturday, right after my talk – so 12:15pm?

Would it also be possible to book a second one for Sunday, 10:45 am? I’m happy to move or cancel this one if someone else wants the time or Sunday is filling up and you need more spots for other topics.

    • Locked in the Saturday session.
Lets see how things go on the day, if the slot is still empty on Saturday afternoon I don’t see why you can’t lock that in too – I’d just like to give others a chance to sign up on the day.

I’ll have to throw my pick set and practice lock (one of those 3 pin clear ones) in my bag for the weekend!
